About Me

Hello! Welcome to my blog! My name is Sara and this is my new and improved blog. I had a blog for a couple of months - tried to switch some things up - and pretty much lost everything!

I am starting this from scratch and with a new outlook!

To start from the beginning...

I am 23 years old and live in North Carolina. Just to get this out there - I DO NOT pull for anything related to the North Carolina Tarheels (I would rather eat something terribly disgusting than pull for UNC). :) I work in a financial firm full time and spend the rest of my time devoted to living a healthy lifestyle.  I am not perfect by any means at this, in fact one of the main reasons that I started this blog was to show you my struggle and achievements throughout my life transformation.

I'll give you a little history about me:

I grew up about an hour from where I live now and my parents always enforced good healthy practices. I was active, ate very well, and for the most part never worried about a thing. Where did the problem begin you ask? One word...college.

I went to college and that is when my "healthy" lifestyle started to fall apart. I stopped being active, I ate terribly (too many late night fast food runs), and I started to feel run down and tired all the time.

The second semester of my freshmen year I met Wes, my boyfriend.  We have been together now going on 5 years and in many ways he was really the start to my lifestyle change.  He grew up playing soccer (not joking - he played 24/7 while he was in high school), but had to stop when he began college.  He was always active and decided he would take up running. It became his obsession, his release, and something he loved more than anything.  I really admired him for it and he completed his first marathon (the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C.). He has now qualified for the Boston Marathon and will be running that in April 2010. I am so proud of him!

At first, I could not get into running, to be blunt for the longest time I hated it. I kept trying to force myself to be this "super runner" to keep up with him but it was making me miserable.  I decided I was never going to love it like he was but I could incorporate it into my life.  I began running small amounts and completed my first half marathon my senior year of college.  I finished in 2 hours and 28 minutes. I ran the same half marathon the next year and cut 15 minutes off my time!

I graduated from college in 2008 and started my full time job.  I work 8-5 every day and sit all day long.  My diet started to slack and I stopped being active again. You would think I would have learned by now to keep up with it but I fell back into my old routine.

Before I go any further, I want to address somethings. I am not overweight and do not feel like I need to lose any weight. I don't want people to take the things I say on here wrong. My goal is not to lose weight; it is instead to be the healthiest I can be. I want to be a strong and healthy woman!!

A few months after starting my job full time I knew that I had to do something.  I started to run again using a marathon training schedule. This helped me stick to something but as I go further and further into it I realized it was just too much running.  I felt my body getting stronger endurance wise, but I felt weak physically.  Last month we jointed a gym so that I could incorporate not only running but also weights and classes. I have fallen in love with exercise! I never though I would say that but I have finally found something that I enjoy!

I tried to be a the marathon runner for the longest time but realized finally that I didn't have to do exactly what the boyfriend did in order to be healthy - I could do my own thing! I will still compete in races, including half marathons, but for now that is the longest distance I will go.

I am starting this blog to share my journey. I will share with you my daily workouts, my eats, and my day to day life. I have never been a good cook so I am going to use this as a chance to bring out my inner chef, if it even exists! I want to learn to cook healthy and nutritious meals, even when life seems too hectic!
